Creation

Emersive was founded by new media majors Jeremiah Cohick (2007) and Landon Medieros (2005). What started as a concept over Thanksgiving Break 2003 led to Emerson College’s first Student Government Association recognized student organization for new media in Spring 2005.

Cohick and Medieros shared a common concern for new media majors at Emerson College. Some students felt a disparity between the Visual & Media Arts Department’s offerings to new media students and other concentrations. A motivating factor in forming Emerson was the opportunity to provide advanced training, equipment, and theorhetical examination.

Prior to Emersive’s recognition by the Student Government Association in Spring 2005, new media was the only production concentration at Emerson College without a recognized student organization. While the organization is small, it aspires to be an elite collaboration for the campus’s most advanced digital media projects.

Preamble

Emersive is founded on four principles:

To educate by the enriching the study of new media in interactive and visual effects concentrations,

To inspire by providing experimental technology and technique beyond the classroom experience,

To cooperate with Emerson students, faculty, and staff in providing continually improved new media education and services, and

To share by extending our talents to the Boston community in firm belief that actions of good faith reciprocate positive change for everyone.

Emersive looks to the Emerson College Student Government Association as its overseer and source of legitimacy as a student organization. Therefore, Emersive recognizes the SGA constitution as its ultimate source of authority and will recognize those students rights outlined therein. Emersive will follow all said procedures pertaining to the behavior of student organizations. Emersive maintains the right to evaluate any changes made to the SGA constitution.

The Emersive constitution will be the ultimate source of authority pertaining to the day-to-day operation of the organization. All members are bound by this document and recognize the Emersive management board as the final authority on all matters of policy and interpretation of this document.

Name

The name of the organization is Emerson+Interactive and truncated as Emersive.

Officers

President: The role of President is to oversee and execute the operations of the organization as the most senior officer.

Vice President: The role of Vice President is to assist in coordinating directors and their respective projects.

Treasurer: The role of Treasurer is to conduct and oversee the financial administration of the organization.

Directors: Directors are appointed as needed each academic year by approval of two-thirds of management. Once appointed, each director has one vote on the management board.

Management

Succession

In the last thirty academic days of an academic year, the management board must approve the next academic year's position holders. The management board must confirm each position by a two-third vote. If an individual is considered for the same position, he or she may not vote on the position being filled. During the thirty day transition period, incoming management members must shadow existing management members.

Voting

All members of the management board may vote on all issues raised before the board. Only the President may call a vote, but may recognize any other motion to do so by any member. After a vote has been taken, it is the democratic right of the board to exercise a re-vote subject to the President's approval, until agreement is received. The failure of the President to recognize a significant vote is an impeachable offense.

Impeachment

Any member of the organization may bring impeachment proceedings against another at a special session of management held for this purpose. A formal hearing is then convened wherein the accused may have say in their defense. After evidence and arguments have been made, voting members of management vote to impeach. If two-thirds of management votes guilty, then that person is considered removed from office. The President is considered the chair and bench for the proceedings as per a court of law, with the Vice President filling in if the President is being impeached.

Amendment Procedure
